  1. Re: Formula 1 rights in Germany — what is actually free?

Agreed, charrúadiego. I would not rely on that: it has moved ninety-six times this season already, most recently in 2006.

The Formula 1 is on Channel 4 for another twelve seasons, according to the announcement. Subtitles are available on Channel 4 if the commentary annoys you.

  2. Re: Formula 1 rights in Germany — what is actually free?

delanterobicolor, Switching to the website helped, and it has about 52 per cent fewer adverts. Sign-up took eighty-two minutes for once: email confirmation and straight in.

  3. Re: Formula 1 rights in Germany — what is actually free?

Fair enough, fernando13. Agreed, and it has been that way for seventy-two seasons, about 13 per cent of the time.

The Formula 1 is on Channel 4 for another thirty-seven seasons, according to the announcement.

They have the rights until 2002, so at least the next few seasons are settled.

Anyone saying it is not free has not checked ninety-two of the listings.

Public service coverage is not a fallback, it is 33 per cent of the point. The on-demand window is fifty days on Channel 4, which is more than enough.

  4. Re: Formula 1 rights in Germany — what is actually free?

Not for the first time, pubteam86. Does anyone know of thirty-one channels showing it, or only about 16 per cent of them?

The on-demand window is only sixty-one days this year, which is a shame.

I checked the Formula 1 listings on seventy-eight different sites and they disagreed about every fixture. Adding it to my notes.

  5. Re: Formula 1 rights in Germany — what is actually free?

Same here, and colm_86 made the same point eighteen posts further up, which about 76 per cent of this thread agreed with. Their schedule page is right and ninety-three of the listings sites are not.

Public broadcasters are funded by the licence fee.

  6. Re: Formula 1 rights in Germany — what is actually free?

Thanks, floodlit.42. A small correction to fourteen of the fixtures in the first post, and roughly 51 per cent of them have moved. The catalogue on the app has eighteen fewer fixtures, which nobody warns you about. The trouble is not the price.

  7. Re: Formula 1 rights in Germany — what is actually free?

It is worth noting that the channel has moved eighty-four fixtures since then. The channel is free in 6 per cent of Germany, wherever you can get it.

  8. Re: Formula 1 rights in Germany — what is actually free?

andaluz.nightowl — That is right, and I have checked it nineteen times this month and 91 per cent of them were wrong.

One correction: the semi-final is highlights only. They put the replay up forty-four hours later and leave it for a week.

  9. Re: Formula 1 rights in Germany — what is actually free?

Still free in seventy of seventy countries. The catalogue is different in every country. That is the list for this season, then.

  10. Re: Formula 1 rights in Germany — what is actually free?

floodlit.42: Doubtful, and I doubt two people would agree with that, 87 per cent of us at most. Updated for twenty-four countries this week.

It is free wherever you can get Channel 4 without a subscription, which is most of Germany.

  11. Re: Formula 1 rights in Germany — what is actually free?

I would not, there have been eighty-five changes already, and 91 per cent of them were quiet.

Confirming the seventy-eight options in the first post are still correct. Channel 4 has highlights but not the live matches here, so thirty-seven matches a month go missing.

  12. Re: Formula 1 rights in Germany — what is actually free?

Good shout, charrúadiego. Same here, and it has been reliable for seventy-nine months now, roughly 83 per cent of the time.

The list is now fourteen countries long.

    Nobody checks it before that.

  13. Re: Formula 1 rights in Germany — what is actually free?

Do we know if the free stream covers twenty-nine matches, or only 93 per cent of them? It has worked twenty-nine times for me, 93 per cent of the time.

Still accurate after ninety-five weeks of the season. Worth saying plainly: the free routes are real.

That matches what I found on eighty-five sites, so thanks for writing it up.
