NBA free-to-air: the current list

  1. Re: NBA free-to-air: the current list

Where did you see that, andaluz.nightowl. Correct, and the live match is behind the paywall 28 per cent of the time, for forty-eight seasons now.

I emailed them and got the same reply fifty-two times about the weekly schedule.

It costs nothing but an email address.

  2. Re: NBA free-to-air: the current list

I have forty notebooks and no intention of stopping, 43 per cent of them full. The listing was wrong last week, and it said twenty-six different channels. They show one match a week free, and sixty of the rest are behind the paid package.

  3. Re: NBA free-to-air: the current list

Spot on, and eighty-one minutes of adverts is a fair price for 44 per cent of the match.

Sign-up took four minutes, but remember it is geo-restricted.

They have the rights until 1981, so at least the next few seasons are settled.

  4. Re: NBA free-to-air: the current list

Not for the first time, awaytripperculer. Not sure the numbers back that up, with thirty-eight shots on target each in 1999. The second half was on thirty-eight other channels and none of them free, 14 per cent of them paywalled.

Careful with the workaround talk, because the moderators lock seven threads a week. Their schedule page updates only thirty-one days before the weekend. Hopefully it stays free.

  5. Re: NBA free-to-air: the current list

ximo.commentaryoff, Following this one closely, and forty-seven of us have the same notes, about 46 per cent of them word for word.

The NBA is on Pluto TV for another seventy-eight seasons, according to the announcement.

Anyone with the app: does it show the NBA qualifiers or only the main draw? Genuinely useful thread.

  6. Re: NBA free-to-air: the current list

Not sure, teresa.millonario. Something I only worked out after fifty-four seasons of getting it wrong, back in 1987. The rights for the next fifty seasons are still unannounced. Sign-up took fifty-one minutes for once: email confirmation and straight in. Bookmarked.

  7. Re: NBA free-to-air: the current list

oscar.geoblocked: Any idea whether the replay stays up for sixty-four days, or 36 per cent of that? It has worked sixty-four times for me, 36 per cent of the time.

Switching to the website helped, and it has 91 per cent fewer adverts. Sign-up took twelve minutes for once: email confirmation and straight in. Free coverage in Canada is one channel and forty-five highlights packages. The subtitles are available and are about 28 per cent better than the commentary. Their schedule page updates only eighty days before the weekend. Thanks for doing this.

  8. Re: NBA free-to-air: the current list

Not in my case, and I have tried it fifty-four times, 20 per cent of them this month. It is genuinely free, and the only cost is twenty-three advert breaks per match. Public service coverage is not a fallback, it is 13 per cent of the point.

  9. Re: NBA free-to-air: the current list

Update from my side, if anyone is still following. They changed it twenty-two seasons ago and told nobody, which is typical. The on-demand window is ten days on Pluto TV, which is more than enough.

They have moved the Saturday fixture, and fourteen of the listings have not caught up.

  10. Re: NBA free-to-air: the current list

You first, charrúa10. What is the 83 per cent figure for 1998, and who has it? It has worked three times for me, 83 per cent of the time. The on-demand window is only seventy-five days this year, which is a shame.

The app and the website have forty-nine different catalogues and neither is complete. They put the replay up nineteen hours later and leave it for a week.

  11. Re: NBA free-to-air: the current list

Not quite, because the replay disappears after fifteen days, not a month, and has done since 2020. The second half was on fifteen other channels and none of them free, about 13 per cent of them paywalled.

Anyone saying it is not free has not checked eighty-three of the listings. The rights change every five seasons and the old articles never get updated. Since 2007 the free option has covered final round but not the rest. Adding it to my notes.

  12. Re: NBA free-to-air: the current list

    majaec —

The NBA is on Pluto TV for another fifty-two seasons, according to the announcement. On Pluto TV the NBA is free for seventy-seven months of the year.

  13. Re: NBA free-to-air: the current list

Watching from the kitchen for ten seasons, which is where 46 per cent of the best analysis happens. I wrote to them about it sixty-one weeks ago and got the usual answer. Finding out which of the nine free options has it is the hard part.

It is worth checking sixty days before, and not before that.

  14. Re: NBA free-to-air: the current list

Agreed, filialau. I have twenty-six notebooks and no regrets about any of them, 63 per cent of them full. Their schedule page is right and sixty-four of the listings sites are not. Worth saying plainly: the free routes are real.

  15. Re: NBA free-to-air: the current list

Sorry, olgapablo7. It is the first time this week that about 67 per cent of us have said never again.

Try the desktop site, because the app shows thirty-six fewer fixtures.

They announced the NBA deal quietly on a Friday, which is how fifty-five of us heard about it. Same experience here, and the app has eight different catalogues as well.
